You Are Under Attack!

Eternity—sounds like a long time.

When was the last time you considered your eternal soul?

God wants you to spend your eternity in heaven with Him. Not in the lake of fire with Satan.

We know intuitively that we are made for more than just existing. Our soul, which is our “life,” our essence, that which God created uniquely for each of us, begs for relevance.

You’ve felt it.

Our soul is that motivating power that brings strength of will and, together with the heart, determines our conduct. When Jesus commanded us to love God with all our soul, He is talking about the power of our lives. If your soul is tossed and turbulent, never at ease and moving away from God, you become susceptible to false teachers, a corrupt world, and Satan’s plans. Your love is drifting like flotsam and jetsam in your culture’s trends.

Your only anchor is God’s Word.

We often hear that we should listen to our hearts to know what is right for us.

Bad advice.

Your heart decides feelings, emotions, desires, and passions. When we encounter anything that “touches” us, our heart interprets it, applies our bias against it, and tells our spirit how to act. In Jeremiah 17:9, we learn, “The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; Who can understand it?” (NASB95) The heart cannot be trusted; the soul must corral it , like wandering sheep,.

God gifted us with our minds to help interpret this world.

The mind is our guide for devotion and reverence, worship and praise. C. S. Lewis said, “God is no fonder of intellectual slackers than of any other slackers. If you are thinking of becoming a Christian, I warn you that you are embarking on something which is going to take the whole of you, brains and all.”

Jesus tells us to use these things we possess to love God, to honor, obey, praise, and worship Him. Satan wants to dissuade you from this and therefore works diligently against your efforts. He wants you to worship him through your acceptance of sin, which takes your soul from its place of prominence in God’s surrounding love.

Ponder your soul, heart, and mind today. Have they been soaking up the Word of God for nourishment?

Know that if you are struggling, it means you are on the right track, you are battling for your soul. But take comfort that, as 1 John 4:4 says, “He that is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

Heavenly Father, we thank You for creating us. Our eternal souls exist in a tough world, but Your love for us provides the strength we need to battle the difficulties Satan throws at us. Our struggle to do right creates the fire we need to fuel our efforts. Our successes, if only momentary, provide music to Your ears. May our symphony build to the crescendo Heaven longs to hear. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Soli Deo Gloria
