God's Root Canal for Your Heart

Root canal.

Yikes! The mere thought of the pain associated with this dental procedure is enough to ruin your day…or week if you’ve just had it done.

While lying on my back, a rubber wedge forcing my mouth open, the smell of burning tooth enamel and the grinding vibrations felt down to my titanium knees, I thought about how God painlessly removes our sins. Just as my endodontist removes the abscess at the root of my tooth, Jesus’ living, saving blood flows through our hearts, removing the abscesses of sin.

In 1 John 1:7, he tells us, “but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” (NASB95)

Blood equals life. Jesus shed His blood on the cross to give us eternal life. Living our eternal lives now results in peace and harmony with our world. Life is lived abundantly. Joy replaces worry; mercy replaces hate; love replaces anger. Our lives will be different when we accept the sacrifice Jesus made for us. In Revelation 1:5, John reminds us, “To Him who loves us and has released us from our sins by His blood.”

You can feel the new life coursing through your body, flowing through your cleansed heart, removing your sins, if you accept what Jesus has done for you and you give up the control of your life to Him. Try, even though it can be difficult, letting go of the world’s ways and live as Jesus lived.

Heavenly Father. We can never repay Jesus for His sacrifice for us. But we can believe and have faith in Him. His saving blood can wash us clean of sin if we let it. Changed lives will be a witness to His power. Free us, Lord, from the worldly chains of sin and death, and help us live abundant lives glorifying and praising You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Soli Deo Gloria
