Listening to Lies?

 

Truth Matters

The universe was created by no one, out of nothing? More than two genders? The Bible is not the inerrant Word of God?

Please.

In Colossians 2:8, Paul says, “Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that comes from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.” (NLT)

Timely advice.

Satan does not want man to follow God. He wants man to follow him. He will do everything possible to destroy the perfect structure God created for man. Destruction is Satan’s goal; the resulting chaos provides fertile ground for his persuasive lies.

His favorite method of tempting us is with lies about worldly, physical pleasure. How it is the answer to all our needs. But if we stop for a moment and think about our pleasures from the past, are any of them still giving us pleasure?

Fitting in with this world, going with the flow, or just plain not caring opens us up to empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense. Those things that do not sound dangerous are the most dangerous since we lower our guard.  

In John 18:37, Jesus says, “and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” The Truth is Jesus; Son of God, who is God.

Belief in Jesus and His commands for our lives result in a living foundation built upon the Truth.

Among the things Jesus said:

            *Subdue your anger.

            *Love your neighbors.

*Do not succumb to the lust of the body.

*Keep your eyes on Him.

Will these ruin your life? Try standing on the Truth today, applying it to all you encounter and take notice of the results.

Focus On Eternal Things

  Imagine going through the day thinking more about your heavenly home and less about your earthly abode. For most, our earthly abode contains all the things we have accumulated and love. Favorite chair, couch, bed, table, and knickknacks. Maybe you are fortunate enough to have a backyard with trees, flowers, and a vegetable garden. This abode can also contain friends, people we enjoy. I have found that earthly things can distract me from my spiritual journey. How about you? Who doesn’t like the pleasures of this earthly life? Especially friends to share these things with. But our life isn’t about this life. In 2 Corinthians 14:8 the Apostle Paul says, “So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” (CSB) Although we know this, it is difficult to consider it. What Is God Teaching Us Today?

  Our history is full of periods of trouble: wars, plagues, famines, and injustice. I don’t know about you, but it has affected, nay suffocated my normal optimism. The prophets in the Old Testament have gone through these same things. Jeremiah was known as the weeping prophet because of Israel’s abandonment of God, resulting in wars, plagues, famines, and injustices. We wonder if God has forgotten us, or is punishing us, or is teaching us some lesson. Three short years ago, my life was much better. There was more peace in the world, the economy was strong, and I felt our votes counted. Today, like Jeremiah, many are weeping due to wars, government oppression, increased inflation, and lack of control over their lives. But there is good news!
